Become a

Dungeon Master

It’s Saturday night and you want to play some D&D. You’ve got a group of friends together but nobody wants to be the Dungeon Master. You would do it yourself, but everything feels overwhelming. Well, I’ve been there. I initially started out as a player, but we kept running into the issue of having a consistent DM. I wanted to become a DM myself, but looking at the dungeon master’s guide and player’s handbook, it all felt a little overwhelming. Yet, once I did my first few sessions, I started to feel more comfortable. I also used online tutorials and developed my craft using various sources. By the time I finished my first campaign, I fully realized that being a DM is as daunting a task as it may seem.

Now, I’ve done nearly a dozen campaigns and refined my skills to a point that I’m confident in my own abilities. Yet, I know that there are people out there that wish to be a DM and just don’t know where to begin. That’s where my Learn to Be a Dungeon Master Course comes in.

Learn to Be a Dungeon Master

This is a course I’ve put together that demystifies the concept of being a dungeon master: what it means to be a dm, what’s expected, what kind of preparation is needed, etc. I’m currently looking for people who wish to become dungeon masters to participate together in a course that will teach and train them to be a successful dm.

What will this course look like?

Session 1 - This session will go over the basics of DND, character creation, combat, and other basic mechanics of the game.

Session 2 - This session will look at worldbuilding, using source books, and NPC operation.

In the first two sessions, I’ll be gathering people for a cohort to do sessions 3 and beyond.

Session 3 and beyond - These sessions will see LTBDM students take on the role of dungeon master as other students take on the role of players. The student DM will run a mini one-shot that they have worked on. The session will stop and start as necessary, so that each action by the dm and players can be scrutinized and reviewed for feedback that will help improve the DM’s capabilities. Each LTBDM student will be expected to run at least one session but they can take as many sessions as they want until they are confident in their DM skills.
